As a part of Quality Enhancement in Higher Education in Bangladesh, the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) under the World Bank credit scheme has taken a program on Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) to strengthen the overall capacity building in the tertiary level for quality education through the establishment and implementation of Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at each of the Institutions (both private and public) in the country.

The IQAC, BUET has started its activity since January 2015. The prime task of the IQAC is to develop a system for conscious, consistent and catalytic improvement in the performance of institutions. The IQAC will work to ensure continuous improvement in the entire operations of the institution, and assuring all the stakeholders connected with higher education: namely students, parents, and teachers, staffs, funding agencies and society in general.

For the 2015-2017 period, IQAC will focus on the program level assessment only. Eighteen program offering entities (POE) of BUET will perform self-assessment (SA) at this stage. Currently, six of the POEs completed their SA exercise, while the other thirteen are still performing their SA exercise.
